Lo Specchio e il Mito (The Mirror and the Myth) and Grand Tour
My works entitled Lo Specchio e il Mito (The Mirror and the Myth) and
Grand Tour involve an etymological and archaeological
operation drawing on a wide repertoirethat is more or less well
known and historicized. It is interesting to experiment with the
dialectic of signs, the internal and external references to the images, and the fluid and
changeable universe of the accumulation of images, in which every certainty and
apparently immediate reference is contextualized and problematized differently.
The examination, through photography, of the models representing and epitomizing the
world means reconsidering the very legitimacy and potential of this medium in a period
in which the media image of reality precedes its direct use and usability.
I have replaced
photography as an ‘authoritarian muse’ with a muse questioned byherself and her past, uneasy
and melancholic like a marine painting by Claude-Joseph Vernet or a piazza
by Giorgio de Chirico: the promenade picturale is the visual form of this imaginative journey of mine.
